Rising to Our Divine Calling
“And I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says Yahweh Almighty.” — 2 Cor. 6:18 (quoting 2 Sam. 7:14)
A Sacred Calling
Today we celebrate Fathers’ Day a moment to appreciate and honour the role of fathers in our lives. But we must go much further. We must remember and respond to Yahweh’s calling for men to be more than just earthly providers or protectors; we are meant to be His reflection in the world.
The Bible shows us that men are not optional; we are essential for the health of the family, for strengthening community, for guiding future generations, for justice, mercy, discipline, and reflecting the character of God Himself.
Adam — The Original Man and His Legacy
When Yahweh formed Adam from the dust (Genesis 2), He made him in His own image
but with a unique role.
Adam was placed in the garden to work, keep, and protect...
He was the first leader, the first protector, the first priest in a growing human family.
When sin entered, the greatest tragedy was not just disobedience it was the failure of a man to lead and redeem.
Adam fell silent instead of honoring the Word of God.
This shows us that men’s choices profoundly influence generations.
Noah
Rising in Faith Amongst Corruption
Generations later, we see Noah, a man described as righteous, blameless in his generation, and a man who walked with God
(Genesis 6:9).
He led his family to safety while the rest fell under judgment.
He chose faithfulness over compromise in a world gone mad.
He constructed the ark under God’s guidance not just a physical refuge, but a symbol of renewal for future generations.
This is a powerful picture for us today: men must be a refuge, a stronghold, a place where their children can flourish safely in a hostile world.
Abraham — The Patriarch of Faith
Abraham stands as a father of multitudes (Romans 4).
He chose to follow God’s promises against all earthly odds.
He trained his children in righteousness and justice (Genesis 18:19).
He made hard choices — choosing faith over familiarity, loyalty over ease — a lifestyle we must emulate today if we want strong, purposeful generations.
He shows us that the role of a man is not limited to his own home; it ripples forward into many generations and across many nations.
David — A King After God’s Heart
David, flawed yet passionate... shows us a man wrestling honestly with God, wrestling with sin, temptation, weakness — yet choosing dependency on God’s mercy (Psalm 51).
He was a warrior, a leader, a poet a man who fell, rose, fell again, and kept turning back toward God.
He shows us strength under submission to God’s Word.
This kind of humility and authenticity is a powerful testimony for the kind of masculinity we need today: real, vulnerable, yet anchored in Scripture.
Yeshua (Jesus)
Son of God, Son of Man
Lastly, we see Yeshua — the ultimate example of biblical masculinity.
He is the Son, honouring His Father’s will above His own (Luke 22:42).
He is the Bridegroom who gave His life for His Bride (Ephesian 5:25) — a picture for earthly husbands.
He stands boldly against injustice, speaks hard truths, shows compassion to the weak, and leaves us a path to follow.
He shows us a man’s ultimate calling: self-sacrificing, purposeful, protective, loving, strong, gentle — a reflection of the character of Yahweh Himself.
Rising to Our Calling Today
We live in a generation wrestling with the very definition of masculinity a generation confused, weak, vulnerable to deception.
This is precisely the moment when Scripture calls men to be watchmen (Ezekiel 33:7), warriors (1 Chronicles 12:32), priests (1 Peter 2:9), and loving leaders (Ephesian 5:25) in their homes, their workplaces, their communities.
We must be present.
We must be protective.
We must be purposeful.
We must be pure
honouring God in all we do.
We must be passionate
putting His Kingdom first.
This kind of biblical masculinity is not oppressive or heavy-handed instead, it brings peace, stability, justice, and blessing to those under its care.
Today, let’s celebrate fathers and all men who reflect the heart of their Heavenly creator...
Let’s raise up a generation of men who will lead with humility, protect with courage, provide with generosity, and pursue the Lord with pure hearts.
Such men do not destroy; they redeem, restore, and reproduce a righteous seed for future generations — a legacy that will endure.
This is the high and holy calling of men.
May Yahweh raise up many more in this day.
The world desperately needs them.
